LETSEMA project partners from the University of Turku’s Finland Futures Research Centre and Linnaeus University, Sweden, visited Lesotho at the end of June 2025 to advance collaboration under the EU-funded Erasmus+ LETSEMA Project, which promotes modernised and hands-on learning in energy education.
During the visit, the partners delivered training on Futures Studies, Project Management and Quality Assurance for the National University of Lesotho’s Faculty of Science and Technology, including the Energy Research Centre (ERC) staff, aimed at enhancing project delivery and institutional performance. The detailed Quality Assurance and Project Management training was rescheduled for online delivery at a later stage due to travel challenges faced by some of the project partners.
As part of the same mission, Mr. Osku Hapassari from the Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) presented at the Lesotho Energy Access Dialogue (LEAD 2025) on Roundtable discussions tackling challenges and best practices for skills development and training for renewable energy actors in Lesotho. His session emphasised the importance of building skills and awareness to power Lesotho’s energy future through targeted youth training, stronger academia and industry collaboration, and inclusive participation of women and youth.
Through LETSEMA project NUL-ERC, and BBCDC are continually capacitated to deliver world-class energy education and prepare a workforce ready to lead the country’s sustainable and inclusive energy transition. This was uncovered in the Project Meeting, where establishing employment sector connections was identified as key to creating long-term impact by promoting employability and entrepreneurship amongst students.
